Mazda3 MPS

Engine

The Mazda3 MPS benefits from the MZR 2.3 litre turbocharged engine, with top-mounted charge cooler will create 256bhp at 5500rpm and peak torque of 280 lb/ft at 3000rpm, with this you can expect to get from 0 to 62mph in around 6.6sec (although my local dealer reckons he's done it in less). If you're fairly careful you can expect around 27mpg, however if you are like me and can't ease off the loud pedal then consumption is more likely to be sub-twenty. The Mazda also has a brand new 6 speed manual 'box, with wider gear ratios to full make use of all the power.

Sports Aero Kit

In my opinion, a must have. What you get for your extra £500 (on a new car) is larger rear spoiler, aerodynamic wing mirrors and lowering by Eibach (springs and dampers) which drops the car by 10mm at the front and 25mm at the rear, compared to a standard Mazda3 MPS.

From the Mazda site

The new Mazda3 MPS has a strengthened body, based on the Mazda3 5dr hatchback, with precisely-located reinforcements to refine the drive of the Mazda3 MPS. The suspension and brakes have been similarly tuned and the brake discs are larger than on the standard Mazda3.

Such performance is delivered and enhanced through an unprecedented range of driving technology for any car in this class. A Limited Slip Differential (LSD) automatically optimises torque split between the front wheels helping to maintain grip and traction during acceleration and fast cornering. An advanced Traction Control System (TCS) combines with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to help prevent oversteer and understeer, while the responsive Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) provides the stopping power required to match the car’s commanding performance.

In addition a rain sensing wiper system and auto light system give a clear view ahead, and help prevent accidents.

For protection in a collision, the Mazda3 MPS employs the unique Mazda Advanced Impact-energy Distribution and Absorption System.

Six airbags, a collapsible brake pedal, revised steering column structure and seat belt reminder system are all featured to help keep you and your friends and family safe.

For security, all models are fitted with a Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser system. Its advanced sensor arrangement can detect intrusion through the windows, as well as other areas of the car.
